‘When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!’
Whether you like lemons or not, this proverbial phrase encourages optimism and a positive can-do attitude in the face of adversity or misfortune. Lemons suggest sourness or difficulty in life and by making lemonade you turn them into something positive and sweet.
A year ago I posted that if life gives you lemons don’t waste your time making lemonade – change your life! But, did I put my money where my mouth was? When I felt life had given me lemons – did I change my life?
It's easy to make bold statements when feeling backed into a corner, but whether you come out fighting or not is another matter. Well, a year on you may be interested to know that I very much did take my own advice, put my gum shield in and my boxing gloves on.
Having the time and space to reflect on and evaluate where I had got to in life has been an incredibly valuable experience – a pivotal moment. Indeed, a luxury for whom many don’t get the opportunity.
I am now doing the things I’ve talked endlessly about, but never gotten round to. I can say with certainty what I don't want to do, and am as clear as I can be, taking future unknowns into account, about what I do want to do and what I’d like the future to hold. And, have never been more comfortable with making big life-changing decisions.
So, it can be done. When life gives you lemons you can change your life.
Although it took some challenging circumstances for me to do it, I ain’t looking back! And, if you’re more courageous than me and can do it without a push, I thoroughly recommend it.
